2016 Spring I

First Session

The first session of the Spring 2016 semester met on Tuesday, March 29, 2016. There were five persons in attendance, two of whom were new to the group.

The selected text, Universal Design in Higher Education: From principles to practice, had not yet been delivered so I instead shared handouts taken from http://udloncampus.cast.org/home#.Vwg1C08UWM8.

At this session, we discussed practical ways in which UDL can be implemented in the classroom. Participants reflected on their current teaching methods, shared UDL strategies they already use, and discussed changes they could make to more closely meet the needs of their students. More specifically, among other things, we discussed how Blackborad can be used to have information readily available to students, and to provide outlines before class to help students to be more prepared for class. It was an engaging discussion.
